Discover the joys of gardening with WCHS, a dedicated community of horticulturist in Wright County, Minnesota. Founded in 1978 by some of the leading professional horticulturist in the area. Monthly meetings feature guest speakers, participate in our annual plant sale in May that supports group activities. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just starting out, it's a great opportunity to talk problem solving and to share your gardening challenges and victories with, educational events, and meet new people to grow your network of gardening contacts and friends with a welcoming environment to nurture your garden dreams.
Wright County Horticultural Society Monthly Meetings
We meet monthly from March to December. In the spring and fall (March-April, August-November), we host experienced speakers at our meetings and the public is welcome to attend. These presentations are on the second Monday of the month, at 6:30 pm at Buffalo Covenant Church, located at 1601 Hwy 25 N, Buffalo, Minnesota. (Not affiliated with the church.) After the speaker, we have a snack and a business meeting.
May is our annual plant sale. During the summer, June & July, we meet at private and public garden for tours.
In December, we meet on the second Monday of the month for a private holiday party with a potluck.
Speakers
Before the business meeting we host experienced and knowledgeable speakers to share their talent's providing valuable horticultural information. Some of the speakers subjects we've had in the past:

Plant Sale in May
Our annual May indoor plant sale, open to the public, has become a beloved tradition, featuring perennials, flowers, and vegetables grown by our members from their own gardens, often started from seed. After 20+ years of successful public sales, our members have cultivated an abundant variety to share. The sale not only raises important funds for our club but also gives everyone the chance to connect with fellow gardeners, share tips, and welcome newcomers to our club and the joy of growing.
A plant to watch for at our next plant sale
Jack-in-the-pulpit Perennial Woodland / Shade (Arisaema triphyllum) is Deer resistant
A Minnesota native, Jack-in-the-pulpit (JITP) Blooming April-June Growing 1-3' tall. This plant first appears as a 4-8"greenish horn sticking out of the ground. The horn then goes on to open up to how you see it in the photo. The pitcher shaped vessel resembles the Carnivorous Pitcher plant. It is not a carnivorous plant. The JITP plant uses its pitcher for attracting small insects like the fungus gnat for pollination. Lots of interesting conversation for sharing at a garden gathering.

In June & July, we travel to visit gardens. Privet and commercial garden tours. Some specialize in rare, unique and some pushing their agricultural zone limits. No matter what type of garden it's always interesting to get out and see what's working and growing for others and you can always learn something new.

Swamp milkweed, A lifetime host for Monarch Butterflies.
Monarch caterpillars can only eat one thing milkweed; they cannot survive without it. The adult Monarchs lay the eggs on one of the 14 different species of milkweeds found in Minnesota. When the egg is hatched the larva starts eating, if you listen can hear them munching on the leaves of their host plants. In just a few days it turns into a chrysalis and when its ready it comes out of the chrysalis as a butterfly.
Butterflies are counting on us to provide them with Milkweed.
